Hello and welcome to the (currently) bi-weekly Guild Wars 2 Riches blog post! Sorry for the lack in regular content guys, I'm moving house and working on a ton of other things at the minute. I want to make posts more regular again but first I have to find the time to play Guild Wars 2 so that I find the inspiration to write about it.
Having said that, today's post draws on the work of others in the community. I'm not sure how many of you frequent the GW2 subreddit (it's worth bookmarking) but you can find some useful information there!
I came across a post by ohsnaaap today dealing with converting karma to gold via the new Lost Orrian Jewelry Box system. There are juicy details to be read in that post (I won't repost it here so that the original gets the attention it deserves).
The tl;dr of it is that roughly 1.4 million karma equates to 18 gold and 30 silver (at current market rates). This works out at 3 silver and 66 copper per 1,000 karma.
Now there are a couple of ways of looking at this. First of all, there are those of us who have a stash of karma and vials/jugs/drops of karma saving for that particular requirement for a legendary item. Then there are those who have no interest in legendary items (or anything else karma is spent on) and who view karma as a bit of a 'useless currency'.
For the former group that exchange rate isn't very helpful. If you need both gold and karma for a legendary and you find 1,000 karma to be roughly equal to <4 silver then it's not worth the exchange.
For the latter group, any way of converting karma into gold, silver and copper is a boon.
As I say, I'm in the former camp so I'll keep trying my usual gold earning methods (when online) whilst also conserving karma. A legendary is a distant goal but it's the main reason I want to earn in-game gold; you need your goal to motivate you!
One thing to bear in mind is that this method has a built in 'karma recouping' feature. However to get any real use from it you need to have karma food, karma banner and karma booster. Still it's worth bearing in mind that you can make your existing karma go further than you think.
How many of you are seeking a legendary? How many of you would happily sacrifice all spare karma for silver and gold? Are you enjoying the current in-game event build up (Flame & Frost)? Pop over to our forums to chat about it or leave a comment below!
