Lost Shores Discussion

We've got some information about the Lost Shores!  Massively released this preview today and MMORPG wasn't far behind. Let's have a bit of a chat about the Lost Shores!

There's lots of interesting news but there's one area in particular that we should focus on - the items, specifically the introduction of 'Ascended' gear and infusion slots.

Infusion slots will probably work in a similar fashion to GW1 with an item akin to spectral essence being involved. It's possible that this process will skip the trading post altogether - they're already looking at changes to precursors (not confirmed yet) to counter the inflation in that area, so I wouldn't be surprised by more items locked to a character or account.

Ascended gear will be rewarded from the new dungeon Fractals of the Mist. It's probably a good bet that it'll be in a similar fashion to the loot from current dungeons - tokens. It's possible that ascended gear will be crafted with a new tier of materials (or crafters will eventually have this option) - but I don't think this is very likely.

Hazy though information may be we can certainly expect movement among certain items and materials: New gear means (unless players salvage using Black Lion Salvage Kits) more runes needed; New dungeons mean more loot at a certain level; New requirements to adventure into other parts of Tyria mean a reduced number of people in Orr or Frostgorge Sound (and a drop in their associated mats supply); and a new enemy means a new loot table (probably) - no more large and ancient bones from the Risen!

Although the details are sparse for now, it's never too early to begin speculation - there will be methods to make money popping up on or before the 15th - be it legitimate or idle speculation both will have effect on the in-game economy.

It's also certain that as Thursday/Friday approaches we'll get more and better details emerging. We shall keep our eyes peeled! What do you guys think? Share your ideas below!

  1. I think the high tier bones are definitely a good bet. It looks like BL Chests are on a small rise again as well. And I'll cross my finger's that it's Putrid Essence's time to shine!

I'm not so sure about node and salvage-oriented mats though. I'm wondering if the new area will introduce new nodes to mine. I'm looking forward to more information! Thanks for the post. :)

  2. "Face a brand-new species, earn unique rewards, gather new crafting resources, learn new recipes, and much more! Lost Shores will change the face of Tyria—don’t miss it!"

I am still loaded with candy corn and they are about to release new crafting nodes.

    1. The content in this patch, though (as far as we know at the moment) is here to stay. The investment opportunities will differ.

It'll be more about what items that exist now are used in these new recipes - things like that.

    2. Weapon skins are mentioned (gem store) - will be interesting to see if they'll keep the halloween event format or go for direct sell. My money's on halloween format.

    3. Sorry i meant black lion chests.
I think people who have no time on the weekend can change their gold to gems, could make a little profit, in case people go crazy like on Halloween :-D.
There are also rumours about character re-creation via gem store , but i guess it's comming later, that would possibly kill the gem price :D.
But people who have time should stay liquid ;-)

    1. Hard to say which kind of nodes.
If new recipes are better not equal, ori will get cheaper,
if they are equal ori stays the same or i guess it will rise because less people are gathering it.

  5. A little hint:
There are a lot manipulations going on right now,so if you see something spiking pretty hard never forget to look it up at gw2spidy, especially check the volume of Buy and Sell listings because its strange when the volume of sell listings drops by more than 50% in 30 minutes.

    Dyes for example.

    look at that spike.
Abyss Dye from 41 supply to 15 and then to 140 pretty strange ;D

  7. Are you gonna post something new on the 15th so we can get some accurate information? I never really know what to invest untill it's too late. I kinda don't wanna miss the boat this time. Also I finally got some money on me this time so I hope I can get a good profit from it.

    1. I'm planning a few posts before the 15th yeah :) but keep an eye on things spiking - speculation can create a bubble that you can take advantage of with your existing stock
